Open to Play & Long-Term Teams

Not everyone wants to start a group. A player can say "I'm free to play" and let groups find them. For something longer than tonight, there are long-term posts: a team looking for regular players, or a player looking for a team.

Open to Play

A player who isn't in a group can mark themselves Open to Play for a game. Use the Open to Play button on an LFG channel's guide, or /open-to-play in any text channel. In channels for something that isn't a game (Just Chatting, or a Custom Activity such as "Movie Night"), the button says Open to Join.

The panel is titled Find a group to join. It shows a preview of your card and asks:

  • When are you playing? Choose Playing now or Playing later (see below).
  • More filters: your rank, role, platform and the rest, one at a time.
  • Groups that need players now: groups that are already searching, which you can join right away.
  • Find groups in LFG Network / Hide from LFG Network: whether you also hear about groups from other servers. See LFG Network.

Press Open to Play to post. What happens next:

  • Your card goes up in the game's LFG channel (or in the channel where you typed the command, when the server has no LFG channel for that game). Other members press Group Up on it to invite you.
  • You get one DM. It lists the groups searching right now and any player you could team up with, each with its own buttons, plus your controls (Edit, Stop).
  • Groups invite you as they start. Each group owner invites you at most once for the whole time you're open to play.
  • It ends by itself after 4 hours, or as soon as you join a voice channel. To stop earlier, press Stop Being Open to Play in the DM, or ⚙️ on your card.

When two or more solo players fit each other, the bot DMs each of them a "group up" card with a one-click way into a voice channel.

Playing later

Pick Playing later and a time to say "I'm free from 8pm". Until then, you hear only about groups starting around that time (within 30 minutes of it). Thirty minutes before your time, you start getting invites like anyone playing now. Your card shows 📅 Available in… with the time. A member who presses Group Up on your card without a group of their own starts one scheduled for your time.

Playing later only appears in channels that allow scheduled groups.

When the bot lists you by itself

If your group ends without filling up, the bot lists you as Open to Play for one hour, so other groups can still find you. Further solo groups in that hour bring back the same card; they don't start a new listing.

Press Stop once and the bot stops listing you automatically for that game on that server. It starts again the next time you press Open to Play yourself. You can also turn it off for good from the DM the bot sends when it lists you. To turn it back on, go to ⚙️ My Settings → Auto Open to Play.

Long-term posts

Long-term posts are for regulars: a duo partner, a team or a clan. They stay up for 14 days. Two days before a post comes down, its owner gets a DM: Renew 14 days or Take it down.

Team looking for players

In Create Group, choose Team looking for players from the first dropdown. The panel turns into a team post with the same filters:

  • Group size is your roster. Pick No limit (a clan or community) for open recruiting.
  • 📝 Add a description: your pitch, up to 1,000 characters on several lines. Use it for requirements, schedule and play style.
  • The form also asks for an optional team name, the days you play and your usual start time.

The 🤝 card goes up in the channel. Players press Apply, which opens a private thread with you. Press ⚙️ on the card to see the roster, edit the post, renew it or take it down.

Player looking for a team

In Open to Play, choose Player looking for a team. Your 🙋 card shows your rank, role, when you play and your description. A team captain presses Contact, which opens a private thread with you.

If your server shows its groups on the LFG Network, the post form asks Show on the LFG Network. Say yes, and your post is also listed under Players on lfghub.gg/network. Anyone who wants to contact you from there has to sign in with Discord. You then get a DM with their card and Accept or No thanks. Nobody reaches you unless you accept.

Which posts a channel takes

Admins choose this in /setup-lfg-channel under Post types: 🎮 Playing now, 📅 Playing later, 🤝 Teams looking for players and 🙋 Players looking for a team. Pick just one to make a channel for that kind of post only. For example, a #recruiting channel that takes only team and player posts gets its own guide with Find teammates and Find a team. Long-term posts started anywhere on the server collect there.

On lfghub.gg

lfghub.gg/network, and each game's own page, has four tabs:

TabWhat's there
PlayGroups searching now or scheduled for later. Filter by When: Playing now, Today, This week.
PlayersPlayers looking for a duo partner or a team.
RecruitingServers looking for new members, most active first. See Recruiting.
