  Configure LFG Hub inside Discord with one optional command: pick games,
  filters, voice creators and the guide channel for each LFG channel.

# Configuration

Everything is configured inside Discord — you don't edit any files.

::: tip No setup required to start
LFG Hub works out of the box: members can create groups with [`/lfg`](/commands/reference#lfg) (or `/create-group`) and mark themselves open to play with [`/open-to-play`](/commands/reference#open-to-play) in any text channel, right after the bot joins.
:::

Configuration is really just **one command**: `/setup-lfg-channel`. It's **optional, but recommended** — it lets you pre-set which games players can create groups for in each channel and with which options (platforms, modes, group sizes, …), and a specific setup makes your server **discoverable to players across the [LFG Network](/features/network)**.

## `/setup-lfg-channel`

This is the command that configures LFG Hub on your server. **Run it in the text channel you want to turn into an LFG channel**, and pass a game:

```
/setup-lfg-channel game: <start typing to search>
```

The `game` option autocompletes against the game database, showing up to 10 matches with each game's release year and studio so similarly-named titles are easy to tell apart. If your game isn't listed, keep typing and pick the "use what I typed" entry to request it be added.

The command opens a multi-step wizard with **Previous / Next** buttons and a final **Complete Setup**. Your selections are held while you move between steps and saved only when you finish. A single channel can host multiple games (up to 24).

The five steps below are the full set. **Members Ping** and **DM Group Recommendations** only appear when those features are enabled for your server, so you may see as few as three pages — Game Options, Server Settings and Voice Channel Settings are always shown.

Once your server has at least one LFG channel configured, a **Finish** button lets you save without walking every page. First-time setup goes through all of them.

::: tip Be as specific as possible
The more precisely you configure a game — its platforms, regions, modes, languages, and group sizes — the better LFG Hub can match your groups and **recommend your server to the right players through the [LFG Network](/features/network)**. A vague setup gets vague matches; a specific one brings in members who actually fit what your community plays.
:::

### Step 1 — Game Options

Choose which LFG filters players pick when they create a group for this game — platform, game mode, group size, region, language, and more. Options are grouped and paginated (4 filter types per page, due to Discord's component limits).

* Filters with several choices appear as dropdowns; single-choice filters appear as text.
* Special pseudo-options let you offer **"Any"** and **"Don't ask"** for a filter. For filters that support it, **"Don't ask"** is preselected — clear it if you'd rather players were asked.
* Group size and game mode support **custom entries** if the presets don't fit your game.
* **Schedule to play later** is one of these options. Leave it selected to let players schedule sessions — see [Scheduling](/features/scheduling#scheduling-has-to-be-enabled-per-game).
* **Sticky LFG Guide** controls whether the channel keeps a pinned guide panel with buttons (default) or stays clean, with players using slash commands instead. The channel picker under it chooses **where that guide is posted** — by default the channel you ran the command in. Pick another channel to keep group posts here and the buttons there; several channels can point at the same guide channel, and its guide then lists all of their games, with Create Group and Open to Join asking which game before posting into that game's own channel.

Fill in as many relevant filters as you can here — this is the single biggest factor in how well your server gets matched and recommended across the [LFG Network](/features/network).

See [Games](/features/games) for how these options shape the group-creation experience.

#### Group Chat Type

One filter on this step decides **where groups talk**, so it's worth calling out:

| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Use Discord Voice Chat** | The bot creates a **Voice Creator** channel for the game. Members can start voice-first groups, and group owners get a *Create Voice Channel* button. |
| **Use Group Chat Thread** | Groups coordinate in a private **thread** under the LFG channel — for games with in-game voice, or players without a mic. |

Both are selected by default. Leaving both on gives players either route.

::: warning Turning off Discord Voice Chat removes channels
Unselecting **Use Discord Voice Chat** deletes the Voice Creator channel linked to this LFG channel, and the *Create Voice Channel* button disappears from group panels. Matchmaking then uses threads only.
:::

Unselecting **Use Group Chat Thread** stops the bot asking players to choose between voice and group chat, but groups created from the LFG text channel still get a thread as their coordination space — the thread is where the group panel lives.

### Step 2 — Members Ping

How your members get pinged when a group is looking for players.

* **Smart LFG Ping** — enable it, tie it to a specific role to ping, or disable it. Enabled by default.
* **Ping delivery** — either the bot pings automatically when a group starts searching, or the group owner presses a **Send Ping** button themselves.

::: tip Pinging is on by default
Smart LFG Ping is enabled when you complete setup, so members can start getting pings straight away. Turn it off on this step if you'd rather opt in deliberately.
:::

### Step 3 — DM Group Recommendations

* **Smart DM Recommendations** — enable it, set a role, disable it, or send yourself a test DM. DMs members personalised group recommendations. Enabled by default.

See [Notifications](/features/notifications) for what both of these look like in practice.

### Step 4 — Server Settings

Server-wide settings that apply across games:

* **LFG Network** — how far your server is on the cross-server network: **Server and groups** (listed, every group shown), **Groups can opt in** (the default: not listed, a group shows only when its owner turns on **Show in LFG Network**), or **Off**. See [LFG Network](/features/network#turning-it-on-or-off).
* **Role mapping** — map your server's roles to search filters.
* **Moderator roles** — which roles count as moderators for bot reports and actions, and which are protected from being kicked from a group voice channel.

### Step 5 — Voice Channel Settings

Everything about the voice channels the bot creates:

* **Categories** — pick or create the "searching" and "groups" voice-channel categories the bot organises channels into.
* **Voice channel naming** — the name pattern used for auto-created group channels, including per-filter tokens like `{Platform}`.
* **Music bots** — whether known music bots may join without counting as players.

### Finishing

Click **Complete Setup** to save. The bot creates the LFG text channel(s) and any linked voice-creator channels for the game, then lists the voice channels it will treat as [Auto-LFG](/features/voice-channels#auto-lfg-channels) — the ones sharing a category with the voice creator channel. Move that creator channel to a different category if you want a different set of voice channels covered. If it hits a permissions problem while creating channels or categories, it reports the error back to you with a retry button — usually this means a [permission or role-hierarchy](/guide/permissions) fix is needed.

## Editing later

Run `/setup-lfg-channel` from any channel and pick **Edit *your game* in #*channel*** to change a channel's configuration. Every LFG channel on the server is listed there.

The first input on the setup panel is the channel. It starts on the channel you ran the command in (or the one you're editing); pick another to set that one up instead. When editing, picking another channel and saving moves that game there. Its open groups in the old channel are closed; other games in the old channel stay where they are.

To stop LFG in a channel, open it the same way and press **🛑 Turn off** on the first page. The bot asks first, then closes open groups there and removes the LFG guide and voice creator channels. The channel itself stays. A channel with several games also offers to remove just one game.

## `/setup` — checking your status

`/setup` is **not** a setup step — you never need to run it to configure anything. It's an overview command that shows, at a glance:

* how to set up LFG Hub (if you haven't yet),
* which features are currently **on or off** (Smart LFG Ping, Smart DM Recommendations),
* and which **LFG channels** are configured on your server.

Use it any time you want to check the current state of LFG Hub on your server. All the actual configuration happens in `/setup-lfg-channel`.
